Clear aligners by Clear Correct are innovative trays that straighten your teeth. At Jarosz & Valente Orthodontics, we're proud to offer this treatment type at both our Arlington Heights and Deerfield locations. Our staff has considerable experience with these devices to achieve a brilliant smile. Get familiar with Clear Correct trays and if they cause any pain right now.

Discomfort at First

According to Healthline, patients have reported some discomfort when wearing Clear Correct at first. Pain is a subjective sensation, however, because some people deal with it better than others.

The aligners apply pressure to the teeth to move them into their proper positions. Without any sensation being felt, the aligners wouldn't be performing their duty. Patients wearing traditional braces often report more pain than aligners, so consider the treatment options before selecting a device.

Acclimating to Wearing Aligners

Generally, it takes up to a week to get comfortable with the aligners. Your teeth should be in the right spot by this point. Pain shouldn't be a factor.

Remember to keep the aligners on as much as possible. Any discomfort will dissipate as the teeth move into place. Leaving the aligners out only allows the teeth to move away from their destined location. Ask Jarosz & Valente Orthodontics about clear aligners today!

Swapping the Trays

After acclimating to the first tray, our orthodontist will usually swap it out after about two weeks. Each tray moves the teeth just a little more than before. You'll probably feel discomfort with the new tray, too. Be patient for a few days before the discomfort subsides. The discomfort means that the straightening process is working.

Considering a Pain Consultation

If you're having considerable pain, that's not normal. It shouldn't interrupt your day or keep you up at night. There may be an underlying issue causing pain with the aligners, such as:

  • Gum disease
  • Tooth cavities
  • Rough, aligner edges

Ask your dentist to address any dental concerns. Rough edges on the aligner can be smoothed out with dental wax. Simply stick it to the edges, or ask our team about filing the edges down.

With just a hint of discomfort, Clear Correct aligners are designed for successful smile creation. Pain is only a concern in very rare cases. Speak to our staff at our Arlington Heights and Deerfield locations about your concerns. Call Jarosz & Valente Orthodontics today for an appointment!
