When patients first begin the treatment process, they're usually filled with questions about what to expect when living with braces – and one of the most common questions we hear is, "How often do I have to visit the orthodontist during treatment?" We believe patient education is vital to successful treatment, so we wanted to take some time to answer this question.
Orthodontic Checkups During Treatment
No matter what orthodontic treatment you choose, you'll need to visit our office regularly for check-up appointments during the treatment process. But just how regularly, exactly? As with so many other aspects of orthodontic treatment, the answer is: it depends.
For most patients receiving braces, we'll need to schedule a check-up appointment about every 6 weeks. During these appointments, we aren't actually "tightening" the braces, but rather making adjustments that keep the wire fitting snugly into the brackets. At some appointments, we may even replace your wire with a heavier gauge, but this will happen less frequently. ClearCorrect patients need check-ups as well, but we tend to schedule these farther apart: normally about every 7-8 weeks. All that said, the frequency of your appointments can vary: we may need to see some patients more often, while others may not require close supervision. It all depends on your orthodontic situation!
